Overview

Australia & Fiji

As far as mixing and matching destinations for your perfect vacation, Australia & Fiji are the precise combination of adventure and relaxation. Sightsee your way through the iconic cities of Melbourne and Sydney, wander the sprawling markets of Brisbane and Adelaide, and explore the laneway restaurants and cafes in Melbourne and Perth.  If adventure is on your mind, you can zipline above the rainforest in Queensland and the treetops of Western Australia; trek to the Red Centre (Australia's interior desert region) or get up close and personal with either of the amazing reefs in Australia, The Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef.   All of this and much more await you in Australia.

Next, you escape the city lights for romantic nights on the exotic shores of Fiji where you’ll find crystal clear lagoons. Kick your feet up by the turquoise waters fanned by the gentle trade winds.  Sleep in with your only appointment, a hydro-massage at one of Suva's award-winning day spas. Leisurely walk the endless beaches before deciding to take a swim at the base of one of Fiji's iconic waterfalls.  AusDownUnder partners with locals to give you authentic Fijian experiences like deep sea fishing and horseback riding in the highlands. As you relax and watch the sunset over the white sand beaches, you can celebrate the memories you’ve created and the experiences you’ve gathered by combining these two amazing countries. Our AusDownUnder travel experts are here to get you to that blissful feeling, one planned activity at a time!

Itinerary

Today you will begin your customized itinerary. Please note that airfares have not been included in this package price. Please check with your travel adviser for current flight pricing.

Cross the International Date Line, an imaginary line on the surface of the Earth that runs from the North to the South Pole - and defines one calendar day from the next. Crossing the International Date Line adds one day (24 hours) traveling west, and subtracts one day (24 hours) traveling east.

Melbourne is Australia's second largest city (after Sydney), but is second to none when it comes to fashion, festivals and Sport. Set around the shores of Port Phillip Bay, the city itself is laid out in a large rectangle. She boasts a lively, cosmopolitan pulse, sitting on the northern banks of the Yarra River, about three miles from the bay. Visitors come for its shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Residents stay for its cultural diversity, passion for the arts and enviable sports calendar. Melbourne is renowned for playing host to a number of nationally and internationally recognized events each year including the Australian Open Tennis Grand Slam, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix and the ever impressive two mile horse race - the Melbourne Cup. A major event in Melbourne spreads an addictive buzz through the city streets and you can be sure that locals and visitors alike will embrace the energy surrounding it. Explore the famous laneways and arcades of the city, catch a tram to trendy Southgate, rub shoulders with locals at the Queen Victoria Market or take in a show at the ornate Princess Theater. For a break from the hustle and bustle, cruise along the Yarra River or head out to one of the many beautiful beaches just outside of the city. Go in search for the unique Australian animals like Koalas, Kangaroos and the Little Penguins, and see them in the wild just an hour or two outside Melbourne. Explore one of the premier wine regions in Australia exporting wines to the U.S. to find your blend in Yarra Valley. It is the closest winery to any major Australian city, just an hour out of the city but world's away from the bustling streets in this very vibrant city.

Have you ever been to a city and wondered what all the fuss was about? Or wasted time trying to find that cool local café you were told of, then ended up missing everything? Melbourne's arcades and laneways hide many of these answers. Join this indulgent morning walk through Melbourne's beautiful back streets, and become orientated in the life of the city that locals love. Discover local designers and specialty retailers that often are only found in the city. Some of the quirkiest cafes, independent designers, street art, architecture, and historical tales are found in these walkways, there is something for everyone, locals and visitors alike. Morning tea is included as well as lunch with a glass of wine.

See Koalas and Kangaroos IN THE WILD! Interact with wild animals in their natural habitats on this full day, fully inclusive small group eco-tour, led by an experienced Wildlife Guide. Take an easy walk through the gum trees, searching for koalas, wallabies, kangaroos and birds in their natural setting. Your Wildlife Guide will point out plants and features of interest, explain some of the history of the area and, where possible, introduce you to known, named Koalas that are part of the research project. Help collect important data, remove Boneseed (a weed) and make a difference to koala habitat. The area is also of great significance to the local Aboriginal People of the Wathaurong Tribe. Many signs of their occupation remain, and the guide will share their knowledge with you. Though you will not meet any Aboriginal People on this tour, guides act with the knowledge, consent and support of the Wathaurong Community. A picnic lunch is usually served under the gum trees and includes gourmet sandwiches, fruit and cakes, and delicious Australian 'Billy tea'.

It is no surprise that when the British first arrived in Sydney they named the area Botany Bay. Even today, with a population of over 4 million people and a reputation for fun rather than flora, one is still surrounded by bush land in this bustling city. Native Waratah wind their way through the historic Rocks area, palm trees frame long stretches of pristine beach, and Eucalyptus embrace the endless and beckoning bays of Sydney Harbour.

Ultimately Sydney invites you to experience the 'Story of Sydney'. You will take away lasting memories of stunning beauty, fascinating culture and a variety of wonderful attractions. Travelling in a small group, 'The Story' promises to acquaint you with Australia's most vibrant city beginning with her birth place, The Rocks. Discover how culturally intact the region remains today. The Story of Sydney is the ultimate way to orient yourself in Sydney. The itinerary includes 'must-see' attractions, from the Opera House to Bondi Beach, as well as many of the local's favorite hidden gems. 'The Story' really brings the city to life as your guide introduces you to Sydney's unique culture, contemporary lifestyle and fascinating history whilst you tour the city's diverse villages, fashionable shopping strips, beautiful beaches and buzzing dining precincts through the eyes of a Sydney-sider. The tour also includes (optional) short walks along spectacular coastal paths and golden beaches. Total tour duration is 3.5 hours and operates with a maximum of 14 passengers. Cruise Like a Local Cruising on Sydney Harbour is a quintessential Australian experience. With a minimum of two people on this small group experience, 'cruise like a local' aboard this 52' Pacific Motor Cruiser, on one of the most spectacular harbors in the world. Enjoy the fabulous sight-seeing opportunities, or perhaps you fancy yourself as an angler? You may choose to go for a swim, or take your chilled glass of Australian wine and relax on the luxurious sunpads. A catered gourmet Australian barbecue lunch is served with regional wines and local beers. Jump aboard and explore this magnificent, world-renowned harbor with Sea Sydney Cruises. Your total Sydney Harbour cruising experience will take around 4 hours.

The Bridge Climb is a 3.5 hour guided journey to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It takes you along the outer arch of the Bridge on catwalks and ladders all the way to the summit, 400 feet above Sydney Harbour. In Climb groups of up to 14 people, you'll be led by one of Bridge Climb's professional Climb Leaders on an adventure of the world's most recognizable bridge. The steady incline to the summit leaves you free to focus your attention on your Sydney experience, with opportunities to witness 360 degree views of Sydney, including east to the Sydney Opera House, west to the Blue Mountains and the Harbour city surrounds. When you reach the top you will have a sense of achievement that you will remember forever - you've conquered an Australian icon recognised the world over! The Bridge Climb is the ultimate Sydney experience.
